Statistics show that 80 percent of all boaters are anglers, and these avid fishermen and women value the ease with which they can get to the fishing grounds from South County's waters. Anglers here spend less time motoring and more time fishing. Many areas have protective harbors and coves with complete fishing facilities.
From May through September, visitors to South County can charter boats with reservations of six or fewer passengers. Bait and tackle are included in the charter fee. The boats are also available for cruising the coastline, bays, or traveling to offshore islands. Party or head boats which carry 40 or more passengers can be chartered out of Point Judith, Galilee, Westerly and Watch Hill.
Saltwater flyfishing charters depart from Watch Hill, Point Judith and Jerusalem, as do some whale watching and tour boats. More than 55 boats are available for charter from Point Judith and Jerusalem for a wide variety of fishing experiences. Interested visitors can contact the captains directly or call the Rhode Island Party & Charter Boat Association at (401)737-5812.
